In a tragic incident amid heavy rainfall in Thane district, Maharashtra, a four-month-old infant fell into a swollen nullah after slipping out of a woman’s grip while walking on the railway tracks. The incident took place between Thakurli and Kalyan stations, close to Mumbai. The downpour had caused disruptions in local train services, leaving commuters stranded and forced to navigate the tracks on foot.

A distress call reached the Fire Brigade, reporting the child’s fall into the nullah alongside the railway tracks. The officials swiftly launched an operation to locate and rescue the baby. A heart-wrenching video captured the moment when a local train came to a halt on a small bridge, while a distraught woman, accompanied by a man, pleaded for help, indicating the location where the infant had been swept away by the rushing water.

The interruption of train services between Kalyan and Kasara sections in Thane district resulted from a track changing point failure at Kalyan station, brought on by the relentless rainfall in the region, as confirmed by a senior railway official.

As train services came to a standstill, desperate commuters resorted to walking along the tracks to reach the nearest railway stations. The perilous conditions caused by the heavy rains made the situation precarious for those attempting to navigate the railway tracks on foot.

Tragically, in another incident in Bhiwandi city, Thane district, a 14-year-old girl lost her life after drowning in a swollen drain. The girl and her 12-year-old brother were walking home from school when the tragedy struck. Fortunately, bystanders managed to rescue the brother from the gushing waters, but they were unable to save the young girl.

The civic authorities reported that the girl’s lifeless body was later recovered from the water. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by the incessant rains and the need for caution during such adverse weather conditions.

Local authorities and rescue teams continue to be on high alert, striving to prevent further mishaps and ensuring the safety of residents in rain-affected areas. They urge the public to exercise utmost care and avoid risky routes, especially near swollen water bodies and railway tracks during this period of heavy rainfall.

The incident has left the community grieving for the loss of a young life and serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of public safety measures during natural disasters. As the rescue operation to find the missing infant intensifies, prayers and hopes are extended for the safe return of the child to their anxious family.
