Woman Finds Dead Rat on Food Table at IKEA Bengaluru, Company Apologizes

In a shocking incident at the IKEA store in Bengaluru, a woman had a dead rat fall onto her dining table. Sharanya Shetty, the customer, shared the incident on Twitter, causing widespread shock and concern among users.

The incident took place on July 16 when Shetty was enjoying her meal at the IKEA Nagasandra outlet’s food court. She took to Twitter to express her disbelief and posted pictures of the dead rat lying near her plate of snacks and drink. Shetty tweeted, “Wtf… guess what fell on our food table at IKEA? I can’t even. We were eating, and this rat just dropped dead. Most bizarre moment ever!”

The accompanying photos clearly showed the dead rat lying close to her food. It’s worth mentioning that IKEA not only offers a wide range of furniture but also provides customers with the opportunity to enjoy meals at their food court.

Interestingly, IKEA’s food courts are a significant draw for customers, with the company’s data revealing that around 30 percent of visitors specifically come for the food. In 2017 alone, IKEA generated a staggering $2.24 billion in food sales, solidifying its position as one of the world’s leading food sellers.

Upon learning about the incident, IKEA issued an apology on Twitter, assuring customers that they are investigating the matter and taking all necessary precautions to prevent similar incidents in the future. The company emphasized that food safety and hygiene are top priorities, and they strive to provide the best shopping experience for their customers.

However, IKEA’s response failed to appease the outrage on social media. Many users expressed disgust and concern, with some even suggesting that Shetty should sue the company. One user wrote, “God… surely not the kind I would want.” Another commented, “Gosh, what is this? I feel like throwing up just by the sight of it.” One user made a lighthearted reference to the animated movie ‘Ratatouille,’ saying, “Chef Remy dead.” A sarcastic user wrote, “Somebody told me IKEA stuff is drop dead gorgeous. Now I understand.”

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining strict food safety standards in all establishments, regardless of their reputation. Customers expect a safe and clean dining experience, and incidents like these can seriously damage a company’s reputation.

As investigations continue, IKEA must take swift action to identify the cause of the incident and implement measures to prevent any recurrence. It is crucial for the company to regain the trust of its customers by ensuring that such lapses in hygiene and food safety are not repeated.

In the future, it is hoped that incidents like these can be avoided through rigorous quality control procedures, regular inspections, and staff training. Customers deserve to enjoy their meals without any concerns about the cleanliness and safety of the food they consume.
