This year France is celebrating its Bastille Day with much fanfare. The storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789 has been remembered in France for more than a century. This time also it is being organized, in which Prime Minister of India Modi is also participating on the special invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron. Along with PM Modi, the brave soldiers of our country are also going to participate in this parade, for this Rafale and two Globemaster aircraft of the Indian Air Force will be included.

The story behind the world’s oldest parade of France begins with the reign of Louis XVI, during his time of great economic hardship across the country. After which the fire of the spark spread everywhere, on May 5, 1789, a meeting of the State General was called, but no general public was included in this meeting, due to which the general public revolted against the rule there.

Some reports say that in the spring of 1789 the Estates-General refused to dissolve, instead turning itself into a constituent National Assembly. In July, King Louis XVI called for new troops and dismissed his minister. On the morning of July 14, the people of Paris began marching in the direction of the Bastille, the ancient royal fortress. After a bloody shootout, the mob burst into the Bastille and freed the monkey prisoners there. The storming of the Bastille ended the Old Regime and marked the first victory. In fact, the building was razed to the ground in the months that followed

The Fête de la Fédération, held on 14 July 1790, celebrated the first anniversary of the rebellion with great fanfare. In Paris, Charles Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord conducted Mass at the altar of the Fatherland on the Champ de Mars. After which these programs started being organized every year. After the war of 1914–18, 14 July 1919 was the occasion for a great victory celebration. Similarly, before 14 July 1945 three days of civic jubilation were observed.

Like every time, this time also the celebration of Bastille Day of France is going to be very grand. This time the occasion is even more special, because Prime Minister Modi of the whole country is participating in it. Let us also tell you that this time PM Modi has been awarded the highest honor of France ‘Grand Cross of Legion of Honor’.

PM Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to receive the honour. The occasion is marked by traditional military parades in Paris and dances and fireworks, special illuminations throughout the country.
